Sitka Community Hospital - Old Receives Long Term Care Award
At the September ASHNHA conference in Girdwood, Alaska, amidst a brilliant backdrop of fall color and alpine foliage, the Mountain-Pacific Quality Health and the Medicare Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization for Alaska, announced Sitka Community Hospital - Old as a 2017 Nursing Home Quality Awards winner. Sitka Community Hospital - Old was recognized not just once, but twice with awards for Nursing Home Quality Improvements.
CEO, Rob Allen and LTC Administrator, Kay Turner, alongside the whole team of LTC professionals, have worked hard to ensure that the residents receive the best care possible.
The first award was a Recognition of Quality Excellence. As one of three Alaskan hospitals to receive this acknowledgment, SCH was recognized for clearing all survey deficiencies and remaining in good standing with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
The second award was a Most Improved Award. As the only recipient, Sitka Community Hospital - Old was recognized for achieving a reduction in rate in overall Composite score.
"High-quality, resident-centered care is a commitment that has to be made every day," said Sharon Scudder, Mountain-Pacific's state director for Alaska. "These facilities work very hard to provide the best possible care for their residents, and we are pleased to recognize that ongoing dedication and effort with these well earned awards."
Congratulations to Patrina Kilkeary
Patrina Kilkeary completed her Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) exam on June 21st. This credential will help improve the quality of our health care record by educating clinical staff in documentation improvement, ensuring the completion of the health care record and compliance with quality programs.
This was a very difficult and challenging test that is four hours long and required numerous hours in studying. The CDIP certification is in addition to her Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) certification and Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). Patrina has shown commitment and enthusiasm in her professional career. Congratulations Patrina on this well earned achievement!
Quality Achievement Award
This award was given on September 24, 2015 at the Alaska State Hospital and Nursing Home Association's annual conference in Girdwood.
Sitka Community Hospital - Old was one of five Alaska hospitals recognized by Mountain-Pacific Quality Health for its dedication to ensuring excellent, high-quality care, receiving the Quality Achievement Award. Award recipients must meet strict quality improvement goals and show exceptional commitment to patient and resident care.
All hospitals and nursing homes in Alaska were considered for this award. Mountain-Pacific appreciates the dedication shown by the winners and recognizes the effort they put forth every day to provide excellent care within their communities. "Our hospitals and nursing homes take pride in providing high-quality care to their patients and residents. We are proud to recognize their efforts," said Sharon Scudder, Mountain-Pacific Alaska director. "We appreciate the dedication shown by hospital and nursing home staff and leadership to continually improve health care in Alaska."
The awards are based on each facilities composite score which comprises 13 National Quality Forum-endorsed quality measures, their licensure with Alaska's state survey agency, the Office of Licensing and Survey, and their certification with CMS.
